Gee wiz! Got up this morning and February is home from vacation. MAN!! 24 degrees this morning. Frozen water for dogs and the whole 9 yards. I had all but turned the house heat off. I was enjoying the spring temps and now… deep freeze!
As I suspected, these average February temps are hurting pretty bad after the April temps we’ve been having the past couple weeks. Now I need to decide if I’m brave enough to continue walking in the cold or if I need to figure a different solution. If I quit completely now, I’m afraid that will be the end of it. I’m up to walking a total of about 5 miles a day, and I don’t want to start all over in a few weeks.
I can tell such a big difference in my ability to move and my attitude. This morning I was planning to sleep in, but the mutts both decided that was a bad idea. Got me up at six. I let them out and came back in to be surprised I am not tired and don’t want to go back to bed. So I started my day early which pleases me. Attitude again. Yesterday when I took the dogs for a ride, I was able to pull myself up on the back bumper MUCH easier than before. Just one week and a HUGE difference.
So… thinking I get a better workout on the road because of the hills, but a few good laps through Walmart or Lowes beats sitting still all day long.
Either way, sitting here typing is only giving my fingers a workout. Will report later –

Well I have been exercising and dieting (hate that word!) for a full week now, and things are going pretty good. I’m averaging walking 4 miles a day, and my clothes are fitting looser. The exercise is getting better. How does exercise get better? I am able to walk further faster and the short jogging stints are getting longer. I was even able to use the truck to pull myself up like getting on a horse. I really can tell a huge difference in just the week I’ve been walking.
Took the pups out this afternoon – went to a couple different boat landings on the river, and they came home exhausted. I’m pretty tuckered out myself. Almost no sleep last night because Robbie has the flu. Didn’t know what it was then, I just worried he would be in trouble at work.
I was hoping I could start riding my bike some over the next couple weeks, but dang!! February just returned with a vengeance. It is supposed to get down to 29 tonight, 32 tomorrow night, and rain almost every day. And I’ve been acting like it is already summer.
Wayne and Sandra came today – Wayne was checking out my tractor to give me a quote on fixing it right. They stayed a couple hours, and it was cool in the breeze even then. He didn’t seem to think it is a lost cause… maybe I can afford to get it fixed “functional.” I wasn’t sure they would make it especially since I told them Robbie is sick. But they came anyway. Hopefully the tractor can be ‘right’ this summer.

I’ve been writing this in my calendar all week, so I thought I would gather the info here. For posterity. Or my posterior. One or the other.
Maybe when I go back and try to decipher what I’ve eaten, I will be able to read it now! And I’ll try to post daily… but no promises.

Well, this morning my sugar is back down to 89. Where I want it to be. I thought you said it was 89 a few days ago? Well, then I had a rainy day with very little walking PLUS I splurged – just a little. I had a tub of yogurt. YUM – lotsa carbs. Didn’t eat 3 meals, so I thought I could swing it.
Not.
Today I walked over 4.5 miles – and stuck to the plan (mostly). I did eat an apple this morning. They are so-o-o-oo good – Envy apples are crisp and sweet and juicy, and I just can’t bear the thought of them being tossed out because I won’t eat carbs. In the morning we will see if I bounced the sugar back up – I’m hoping the timing (before lunch) plus the extra walking made a difference.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a drizzly day, but I’m still hoping to get a LOT of outside stuff taken care of. My roses are greening up – if it turns to winter, they will not be pleased I’m sure. Also have tulips coming up all over the place. Not sure the Rose of Sharon plants all survived, but some of them look as if they are trying to bud. Almost afraid to look at the oak trees I planted last fall. I think I kept them watered enough, but we will see in a few weeks.

Today was a little cool to start — and PLUMB foggy! I walked 2.5 miles this morning – came in and took a shower and headed to Frances’ house. ON MY MOTORCYCLE!! It’s February and warm enough to ride to work. Got home early and walked another almost 2 miles. I’m five days in now – away from the sugar successfully.
I had my first REAL hunger pangs today, and it was kinda weird. I fixed fajitas and refried beans with cheese sauce for lunch. Well, that’s what Robbie had. I ate the beef and onion/pepper/mushroom stir fry. No bread. No beans. No cheese. I had a full serving, but once I finished eating my tummy started growling. I was hungry AFTER eating??!? I popped a handful of grapes into my mouth (thank you, Irene) and have been fine ever since.
Played frisbee with the dogs this afternoon, and they are pooped. We’re heading to bed in a minute. Between walking and playing with dogs, its has been a very active day.
I will get there. I’m just aggravated with myself for letting myself go for the last couple years. I gotta do better from now on. This is a good start.

Well, SUGAR was 89 this morning! Woo-Hoo!
It’s raining outside – boohoo. That means my ‘walking track’ will have to be Walmart this morning. Guess where I’m headed in just a few minutes. Better than skipping my walk. On my way—- to Walmart

Seems I get to say “Day 3” a lot more than I should. And today is “Day 3” again. Keeping the carbs out isn’t easy. I sorta broke down a little today – Melinda had some wonderful navel oranges – huge critters – and I just couldn’t help myself. But one navel orange does not a diet break.
But the exercise is working QUITE well. About 2 miles in the morning and another 2.5 this evening – all in all almost 5 miles today. Not leisurely poking along – some jogging and power walking involved. My shins and glutes are sore – I’ve been trying to work out the soreness.
The plan is the walking will graduate to riding my bike again. As long as I can keep my face out of the feed trough, I should be able to wear my “little-me” (or mini-me) clothes by spring. Well, by summer anyway. That’s the goal. Be back in my ‘skinny’ clothes before I go on vacation in August.
