Maybe when I go back and try to decipher what I’ve eaten, I will be able to read it now! And I’ll try to post daily… but no promises.

Day 3 (again)

Seems I get to say “Day 3” a lot more than I should. And today is “Day 3” again. Keeping the carbs out isn’t easy. I sorta broke down a little today – Melinda had some wonderful navel oranges – huge critters – and I just couldn’t help myself. But one navel orange does not a diet break.

But the exercise is working QUITE well. About 2 miles in the morning and another 2.5 this evening – all in all almost 5 miles today. Not leisurely poking along – some jogging and power walking involved. My shins and glutes are sore – I’ve been trying to work out the soreness.

The plan is the walking will graduate to riding my bike again. As long as I can keep my face out of the feed trough, I should be able to wear my “little-me” (or mini-me) clothes by spring. Well, by summer anyway. That’s the goal. Be back in my ‘skinny’ clothes before I go on vacation in August.

Birthday binge

Monday was definitely one of the better days I’ve had in a while. But it wasn’t until I was reading over some of my old posts that something — clicked.

I am SORE! Everywhere. Every single major muscle in my body feels like I’ve been in football training for a week. Even my butt cheeks are sore.

Last Tuesday was my birthday. We ordered out at work and had “birthday pie” for dessert. Tuesday evening Irene, Sam and Charlie took me out for my birthday. And sent me home with 2 different kinds of cake. Wednesday Kathy texted me a ‘happy birthday’ and wanted to take me out for my birthday, so we made a date for Thursday. Spent Wednesday night at Janice & Bob’s house. They cooked supper for me – the first ‘real meal’ I had all week. They are very good cooks, but they are also watching their diet – so I sorta behaved. Thursday was supper with Kathy and Ernie… and ANOTHER birthday cake. Friday I finished the 2nd cake Irene sent me home with. Saturday I went out with Vickie and we shared a pizza and Reeces’ cups. Sunday Ed treated me, Bob and Janice to dinner at Pirate’s Landing… and another birthday cake. Monday I finished off the pizza Vickie and I started last Saturday.

I wasn’t surprised when my glucose stayed over 100 all week. (go figure). But I just could not think what I had done to be so sore ALL OVER.

Then I was reading through some of my January posts… Looks like I’ve gone and sugar saturated myself. Again. So much sugar that muscles hurt. I basically zoned out for both February and March – ignoring everything. Maybe I’ll wake up now – I’m going ‘cold turkey’ on the sugar again. Wonder if I can behave tomorrow? Well, today, actually. Let’s see if I can climb back on that sugar free horse. I have these new exercise videos- need to check them out, too.

Would be nice to be able to fit back in some of my “good clothes” before vacation time rolls around. I have only 6 weeks (!!!!) until vacation. Gonna have to behave – and Mom is giving me and Dennis a birthday dinner this weekend.

The whole month isn’t shot – yet – even if it IS ALMOST HALF OVER!

Wild ride this weekend

Well, I missed writing last night. Because I missed most everything last night. I spent the last 36 hours or so in the hospital. Why? Dunno. Doctors don’t know, either. I was having trouble breathing, blood pressure shot way up chest, neck and shoulder pain.

Tests? Well, YES, lots of ’em. EKG. CT scan. Bloodwork. Stuck everywhere. Yes, that’s right. Everywhere. Veins in my left arm were doing barrel rolls to keep away from the needle. I am officially a pin cushion. Stuck 7 times in the left hand/arm and 4 in the right. The 4th nurse finally got the IV to ‘take.’ All this at 4AM Sunday morning. I found out later they were looking for a heart attack or a burst aorta or blood clots in my lungs.

And they released me today and we still don’t know what my trouble was. I’m feeling MUCH better now. I have a prescription for Motrin, Prilosec and an asthma inhaler. Who knows. Long as it doesn’t happen again, I’m good with it.

Another day older and deeper in debt

Thank you, Tennessee Ernie Ford. Awesome tune running through my mind right now. I am another day older – I’m NOT deeper in debt, but I’m headed to the “company store” for groceries in the morning. That could change the debt thing.

Still no sugar – no sweetener – day 5. I brew tea every morning and drink on it all day. One thing about tea – it’s good at any temperature. Start it off piping hot so it nearly scorches your mouth, and by the end of the day it feels cool. Tea and water are my liquids at the moment. If I want something SUPER cold, nothing beats ice water.

I cheated just a smidgen on my “diet” even though I didn’t have sugar or substitute. For lunch, I had steamed veggies with wild rice (lotsa carbs) and I ate my chicken as a sandwich for supper.  Still ending the day with under 50 carbs. 5 days – a total of about 254 carbs – not too shabby! Especially considering I’ve eaten meals with more carbs than that.
